When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I am completely new at picking locks. all I have done is fashioned a paperclip into a long thin peice and bent it at the end. and the lock is just a generic lock. it is very small lock about an inch in length and an inch deep into the lock woth about half an inch width. I will try to post pictures. anyway plz help.

First of all, Welcome to the LP101 Forum !

Have you read the MIT Lockpicking Guide ? If you haven't, it can be found in the FAQs section of our site.

Yes pictures would help, but I guess it's just a generic padlock like you said, so it can't have more than 4 pins in it.

I heavly suggest you read the MIT Lockpicking Guide. It will explain you perfectly how to pick a standard padlock.

What you need:

A Pick ( could be many things )
A Tension Bar

If you are serious about this hobby, paperclips will not do. Either buy some proper picks, or make some. There are plenty of templates and videos showing the common profiles which are regularly used, and how to make them.

Paperclips are for emergencies/party tricks, once you become proficient with recognised tools.
Image If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!
