Peterson or Southord tubular picks?!?!

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Peterson or Southord tubular picks?!?!

Postby Wade » 16 Oct 2005 16:04

I am thinking about getting 7 and 8 pin tubular lock picks and would like to know which company (peterson or southord) makes a better product, if there are any preferences or opinions between the 2
any feedback wold be appreciated

Peterson, no contest. The problem is how much the Peterson Pro-1 costs. Right now it costs $315. I would only recommend this if you're doing tubular lockouts a lot or you are obsessed with tubular locks. The Peterson is many many times more useful. You can use it on all kinds of tubular locks- Octagon keyways, Small bore, Shrouded, 7 pin, and 8 pin.
Here is a link to the Pro-1

If you just want to play around with tubular locks a little bit, go for the SouthOrd.

There is no question which product is "better," in terms of quality and function. Indeed, I don't think anyone would place any tubular on the market ahead of the Peterson. But it also costs three times what the SO does, so "better" may not really be the relevant thing. Decide what your needs are, decide what they're worth to you.

If your only doing vanilla 7 and 8 pin tubular, go with the Southord, or the SO 8 pin, and the HPC 7 pin that also does the smaller bore. The Peterson is a bit ..... unweildy if the lock isnt mounted.

whoa I didnt notice the cost of the peterson when looking at it, the cost alone makes me like the southord more, besides I just want something that I can try to pick my Sentry safe with, so I probably dont need anything fancy
-thanks 4 the replies
