broken key extractor

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Well, I've never seen any instructions either, but I guess...

The extractor has a kind of barb at the end. This will be used to pull the broken key out. The barb will have to be placed facing the key; and between the key and the pins in the lock. To do this you will need to carefully use the end of the extractor to ease up each pin in turn to fit the extractor under it as you slide it in. When it's a few pins back, press it down against the key while pulling in an outward direction.

Let me know if it works! :D

Oh I forgot to say. First break off the head of a key while it's in the lock! :D

bahh... yup... it is important to have a broken key...

Generally, correct... The idea is that the extractor can be wedged into whatever is jammed into the lock and used to pull it out. Depending on the situation, you may also need to lift the pins with a second pick that may interfere with the extractor or the object you are extracting.

FWIW: I found that bending the 'hook' of the extractor a bit so that it grabs or bites into the object stuck in the keyway helpful. It is simply a fishing expedition. Hook it and pull it out.
