Transponder duplicating and programming

Postby jabraham » 4 Nov 2009 21:13

I use a RW4 for duplicating and recently acquired a TKO for programming. Also I do on board programming (OBP)whenever I can--especially on keys like the GM B111 PT (OBP A or C).
My first job with the TKO was a failure on a 06 Toyota Corolla. I cut a working key from the customer's mechanical key. The customer did not have a transponder key for this transponder equipped car. I bought the correct key for the car--the Strattec STR-5910834 which corresponds to the Ilco ILP-TOY44D-PT.
I got an initial error message "key not recognised". I cleared the immobilzer, which got rid of the error message. I got a "key copied" or "key stored" message. But the car wouldn't start. I tried the procedure in the TKO "tips" which is put the key in the ignition and turn to start and then to off--five times--then remove the key from the ignition and then put it back in and start the car. But the car still didn't start.
I'd be interested in any comments.

I think you are looking for help in the wrong set of forums. Remember that this is a lock picking forum and not a tech support forum.

You should try to contact Ilco technical support.

As far as the key being programed or not. I think it is safe to say that unless the theft/security light turns off when the key is inserted into the ignition, then the key isn't programed. Regardless what the machine says.

To FarmerFreak and others,
I know from past browsing that Lockpicking 101 has been limited in scope. But I noticed today that there are more posters who look to be involved in the business of locksmithing, although maybe not full service locksmithing in every case. So the site looks more like a place for persons who may be transitioning from amateur to professional status in the trade. That said, and even if a person is only duplicating, transponders are here to stay and are part of even a key duplicator's daily business. Duplicating transponders by OBP is a small and easy step from duplicating on a cloning device (the B111-PT is a prime example of easy OBP duplicating).
I like this site because it is not snooty, no ALOA airs, and it fits my situation as a non-full service locksmith who is learning as he goes. I think there may be others in the same situation, which is why I started this transponder topic. By the way, has anyone noticed that Bill Phillips, the leading locksmithing author, comments in his book that he is not a member of ANY locksmith organization. There is an independent streak among a lot of locksmiths that rejects the politically correct ALOA approach. So this site may not be so far from the mainstream as some think.

If you introduce a valet transponder key into the ignition lock it should close the programming cycle to let the car start with the first master key I think.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
