i saw this beast of a machine for sale at around 3.5k. it looks AWESOME, is it as good as it looks? it seems to me like it is a smaller, faster, and automated hpc blitz that does away with the archaic plastic cards.

is it as good as it looks?

My $.02....... Probably a good idea with mediocre implementation.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

The Blitz will cut the angles for Medeco where the 7000 doesn't look like it does. That's a deal breaker for me.

its videos like the one that was posted that makes me really question the locksmith business. the poster has an account on youtube that makes it appear that it is the official rapid key account and even the HPC site and rapid key sites online link it to the same video. in total, there are two videos, one video is the one squelch linked which SOMEWHAT shows the operation of the key and the other is just a video of the tablet interaction and shows nothing with the actual operation of the machine cutting a key. not only that, but there is random ambient music playing in the background for the second video and the overall quality of the video sucks. are these manufactures stupid or do they just hire their cousin living in his mom's basement to make these videos?

as for the angle cut keys, i find that MEDECO sort of sucks anyways because lately i have been having some significant issue cutting their crappy keys and having them turn smoothly. i have no clue what direction MEDECO seems to be going towards. seems like they have a crapload of blanks that are completely incompatible with one another and now they are primarily working on some sort of pseudo-inferior access control locking devices that cost almost as much as installing a real access control system that can actually be monitored at a terminal versus taking some sort of interfacing tool to read each lock individually.

basically medeco has this new expensive $$$$$ key system where they have the power completely supplied to the lock without any external wiring and it acts as an access control device in that it keeps track of which key was used and when. you can also restrict access to any key during any time HOWEVER, all this is stand alone with each lock and you have to program each lock individually because there is no main operating system that the locks are connected to. they have one version that looks like a regular fancy medeco key we are all pretty familiar with and it has what looks almost like a chip transponder on the bow. then there is an even more ridiculous looking key that looks like a three prong usb port that plugs into the lock.

yea thats the one, i see it as a waste of money because it essentially costs the same amount as actually doing a legitimate access control system. i figure if you do the access control system and have locks be SC4s with a high low pin combo, then realistically everyone except for us dont have the know how to break in.
