Either way look at the threads on making homemade picks and all the same materials and tools are the same

The idea of plastic would probably work if the wards weren't in your way, but would be a bit touch-and-go in terms of strength.

Plastic bump key? IMO not a chance of working, but never thought about it before so might be wrong :)

There was some thread about this before that was very similar... if I remember it got locked and deleted.

Brickstrap is my choice, but can be difficult to get hold of depending where you live.

would the plastic from cd cases work? Becuase they seem pretty strong and it wont bend unlike credit cards.

Actualy if you put the plastic key in you could turn the plug with your tension wrench so plastic would work for keys.

I'm almost sure that you couldn't bump using plastic :?

If the ward system is really complex then no amount of grooves cut into the plastic will help... I've had fair sucess bending brickstrap, and I still feel it's the best material. Most locks have pretty lame wards though, and some don't even need bending.

why do you ask by the way?

Some restricted broaching is freakin' chronic. The Energex (Australian power company) broaching would be near to impossible to bend a strap around. And some of the restricted broaches at work look pretty nasty. :?

I don’t think any medium softer then aluminum would withstand the grinding given by the pins, let alone the tension required to turn the lock, it might work for a quick job. You want to make a new key with basic items: a file and a key blank or a hacksaw blade could potentially work. Getting a key duped doesn't cost a lot of money so why bother?

plastic

Postby raimundo » 31 Dec 2007 12:07

I tried making a plastic key of some credit card material recently, I used a tension wrench for turning, it still broke halfway through from the pressure of the tension, cracked at the shoulder of the key. plastic is never gonna be good enough.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
