homemade keys

Got a question about key machines? not sure what to buy? need a user manual? have some tips for keeping one running well or need help cutting or programming keys? Post here!

A crazy idea that I just thought of but probably won't work..

Have a piece of plastic about the size of a key.
Apply enough heat to one size of the key to make it very shapeable
Then stick it in the lock and let harden.

The question is would it raise the pins above the shear line too much or not enough...

I know it's a crazy idea :lol:

A better question would be why would it raise the pins just enough to match the shear line.

An even better question would be whether you would then be able to remove the key which might be molded around the bottom keys.

Ooops, meant the bottom pins, not keys.

credit card plastic just gets weaker and weaker the smaller you cut it. by the time you get to the size of a key, it would be useless
