Portable Key Cutter

Postby riggers » 21 Apr 2007 16:42

Hi Chaps,
Anyone know of a good portable Key Cutting Machine? Must do Mortice & Cylinders. I know SKS do one "Tempest" or something any good, Any ideas?
Thanks

I just use the FB key machine and it works fine. Micrometer gauge for code cutting is pretty handy. A bear to adjust and align though. But for a professional Locksmith it may be a bit too basic.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

The Tempest is a handy little machine if you only do the occasional key certainly not made for heavy work, You also need to change the cutting wheel before cutting each type of key which can be a bit of a pain although very simple and straight forward to do.
Although it will perform well on both keys, Personally i think it is better on cylinder keys and not really suitable for mortice but that is just a personal opinion.

The tempest is a bit lightweight especially for mortice keys. The Cyclone is a better machine but a few pounds more; depends on how many keys you want to cut.

If you have alot of keys to cut its better to have adedicated machine rather than a hybrid.

as long as you also have an inverter or generator, its hard to beat the SKS cyclone for cutting both cylinder and mortice locks, a good accurate machine and will last.
you get what you pay for , the tempest really is just for the odd key and most who buy it soon sell and upgrade to a heavier duty machine.

Anyone used this RST Breeze manual machine ? I know its not for heavy use but im only interested in cutting very small numbers of keys occasionally. As its manual it is truly is portable, any thoughts ?

Cybus

I have one of these and it is a brilliant little " Machine", obviously not intended for heavy use but cuts cylinder and mortice keys much faster than you would think.

It also comes with attachments via a belt drive, to hook it up to a power source. (Motor/drill).

Cheers Mark A,
Do you know anywhere I can find it cheaper than the site in my link ? If so I would love to know about it.
Thanks again. :D
