Ilco 025 Manual Key Machine Cutting Wheel Sloppy

Postby Markhart » 5 Aug 2018 17:48

I recently picked up an Ilco 025 manual key machine. I have calibrated the cutting wheel and the keys that I cut look good but don’t work. I notice that th3 shaft that the cutting wheel is attached to has a little sideways movement. Is it supposed to be fairly snug with no lateral play? If so, I suspect that is my problem.

Sometimes there is a shim - or should be a shim. Sometimes the bushings can be moved. Different machines are adjusted different ways. But there should be very little lateral movement (slop) in the cutter shaft.

Once the cutter shaft bearings wear enough for 'sideways movement' to occur it's time to rebuild your machine.
You'll need a pair of cutter shaft bushings and a new cutter shaft. I have rebuilt many of my key machines, at least
on this one the parts are all still available
