The Framon 2

Does anyone know the size and thread of the nut that holds the cutting wheel on the Framon 2 code cutter? Mine is starting to round out and i currently don't have the ability to have the nut off the machine to run it to the hardware store to check.

I believe it is just a 1/2" nut with a finer thread. If anyone knows this would be great as it would avoid some downtime in this very busy season we are having.

So hey, hi there, just fyi friend, but this is a hobby lock picking web site, which *also happens* to have a dedicated section for our locksmith friends.

I will move your question from Ask Beginner Hobby Lock Picking Questions over to the Locksmith area that deals with key machines. Locksmith Business Info > Key Machines & Programmers: viewforum.php?f=42

Please take a gander on the left side at all the different categories we offer!

Thanks,
Squelchtone

I don't have a Framon but make sure its not a left hand thread. Most nuts on cutting wheels are left hand threaded.

The Framon parts list shows the item as F2SC078. Its definitely listed as a 3/8-24 hex nut.

Good observation, but in this case, it is not reverse threaded. The blade turns counter-clockwise, so it is held on just fine with non-reverse threads. I have a Framon 2 and checked the nut with one of these:

These thread checkers do not have reverse threads. They are handy things to have.

I would call Framon. Phil is super helpful.

I have a steel rod which I put in the hole in the spindle and a dedicated box end wrench for the nut. This makes swapping cutters much faster.

Pretty much what I do except the box wrench (I used an adjustable hence the rounding off).
