Depends. Every region is different. You should have been asking and tracking since your first call. Only way you'll ever know.

Yellow page nowadays is expensive in comparison to a lot of free advertising you can do yourself online if you invest a little time - you can get free one page websites from most web hosting companies, and they have easy to use templates you can customise.
Everyone I know uses their smartphone and google to find everything - I haven't picked up a yellow pages in years - and my searches on google for goods and services rarely bring up their website - and if they do I tend not to use it. I will call the numbers google throws up at me.
So get your business listed with google for sure.
There's an endless list of places you can advertise for free on sites like gumtree etc - and there will be free resources for your local area too. Try doing a search on google for local locksmiths in your area and see what pops up and take it from there.

i bought the yellow pages add one year. it was very expensive and not worth it in my eyes. i guess it depends on the size of your company and the size of your area. i did not reupdate my listing after the first year. then after 3 years they are trying to charge me two more years. they also made me a website i knew nothing about and tried to charge for that also. being a small town company ive found that it was a waist. word of mouth and repeat business is working for me. like i said it may be different in larger areas

exactly lockjock - I don't know anyone who uses it - I don't even think my parents keep a copy - it's like the Thomson local - does that even exist any more?
When I was researching starting up I saw a few ads in our local paper - you could try that for a few weeks see if it makes any difference - again no good for drumming up lock out business as not many people have a newspaper on them at that exact moment they need you... but they will have their mobile and probably access to the web...

Aside from being costly, the Yellow Pages can screw up your ad...and you're stuck with it for a year.

Many older people still use the yellow pages. It also gets you on yp.com and some GOOGLE placement. However it is expensive. We ran tests and for us it still pays off, but it is not the most cost effective marketing.
