That is going to very based on how much you charge and the cost of your equipment. It will take a while to earn back the thousands of dollars you will need to spend on getting set up to do transponder keys, plus the cost of your inventory.

Originating or duplicating? Duplication you are turning a $4-$8 key blank and a $15 chip into a $65-$75 key. To do so you need the key machines. Figure about $3000-$4000 for a good key machine and a manual milling cutter, then you will have another $1500-$2500 in a cloner. Since we already had the regular duplicator it was an investment about $5K in machines, cloner and a small selection of blanks and chips. We stock 10-20 keys for each type and about 25 each of the two chips we use. Once Your initial investment is paid for then other than a few cutters once in a while it is a very good money-maker. We probably do 3 keys on a slow day and perhaps 10 on a good day.
