Well, I am all for the vehicle sign method. (If you specialize in lockouts) and make sure the sign is always on the vehicle when you go somewhere. Then you drive around the parking lot, park as conspicously as possible and surely someone will approach you needing help if there is a need, heck you are already there and most people are frantic.

Phone books, newspapers etc are great to get your name out there, but there is no better way of showing you can be "johnny on the spot" than having your vehicle signage on (can be magnetic) in every parking lot you go to. The signs are usually reasonable (if you shop around) and you can have printed what you want where you want it (as in a design).

hand your card to any security guards, car park attendants or trolly collecters, they always get approached first if any ones having problems getting into their cars. if you do get a job from one of these people slip em a few quid or next time they'll call your competition

Sending well thought out fliers is how my boss got his company started. Business cards, refrigerator magnets, suprisingly go a long way.

The Yellow Pages of course as mentioned, although it usually brings in
one time only customers.

Word of mouth and direct approach is a great way of nabbing those big chain stores.
