Criminal record and locksmithing in Ontario?

I couldn't find anything on Google or here about it. I would assume you can't, but you never know until you ask. I know that you guys aren't lawyers (maybe some of you are), but I figured some of you might be more knowledgeable of the laws then I am. I do know that TAOL (the association of Ontario locksmiths) will not accept people with a criminal record, nor will a few training schools. Thanks for your time.

I believe it, many if not all folks applying for the job of "locksmith" anywhere are required to fill out a background check form and will be investigated to the fullest. That doesn't mean you can't be a locksmith if you have a record, but you should plan on becoming self-employed, unless you have a friend who can "get you in somewhere"

I have PMed with the OP and he is very fourthcoming about his past and based on what he told me, his past would not be a security risk in working as a locksmith.

As far as I know, Ontario doesn't have a formal licensing requirement for locksmithing. Anyone can declare themselves a locksmith, register a business and go to work.

They might have recently changed their policy, but I joined TAOL without a police records check and I only submitted one maybe a year later to qualify for safe-related training.
