Google Ad Words

Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

Google Ad Words

Postby Sinifar » 5 Mar 2016 9:56

One of the most annoying things is that constant phone ringing and you pick up and a robo says - "Hi! I am Julie your Google Ad Specialist! --Click....

This month in Keynotes, there is an article on Google Ad works. It explains how to get yours going. For you to know, those "paid ads" at the top of a web search are from this program. If you want to stand out you got to pay to play. It can be taken off your taxes as an "Advertising" expense. So think of that -- If you go with one of those phone call outfits, you pay their fee as well as Google's. So save yourself some time and money and as usual do it yourself.

To start go to "Google Ad Words" in any search engine, then click on the thing and go for it, and set up an account. Then decide on a budget for every month. Then just follow the prompts and get the thing going.

It is spring, and according to our historic accounting records, it is slow. SO AT LONG LAST I decided to give this a try. I had a Google account for sometime, but was loathe to spend money like this - but - what the HEY! Let's see if we can get some action during the slows and perhaps find a few things to do between the big jobs when it gets busy.

So for this has been running for a week and here is the stats --

2527 Viewers

10 Clicks

1 for Commercial Locksmith

Total Spent - $15.25

I wonder who all those smart phone people are who are clicking my ad. i don't say I open cars, perhaps they are looking for that?

Smart Phones - 57%

Tablets - 10%

Computers - 33%

Yup you get that type of stats too.

Now if the phone would start to ring it would be nice. BUT know I am not holding my breath until it does. I have been in biz too long to know better. You get a lot of lookie loos, but very few takers. Maybe they know I have a WINDOW display down here and I am going to high pressure them into buying windows?

That is for burglar bars, window alarms, and window locks, if you wanted to know ....

OR maybe when they do click to my web page, the deal looks too good to be true? Perhaps they have been taken a few times too often - and are skeptical about a real sale item. Trust me - the deal is for real. I am just trying to get some jobs in during a slow period. Besides - you can take the difference between the sale price and the regular price off on your taxes as a "Sales Allowance Expense" - yes you can GAAP. (Generally Accepted Accounting Practices)

So - will update people who are following this item as time goes on, and we will see if it is worth the time, effort and cash - or was just a super waste of all three.

Come down to Florida, you will be so busy your head will spin. I left the house to go on a job last night at 11:45 and never made it home until just after noon. Finish 1 job and I would have 1 or 2 more waiting. It is crazy busy down here.

I get lots of calls from google to buy their trash. Now I actually have a section in my phone where I keep google numbers, that way I can just skip having to hang up on them
by seeing that it is indeed google trying to call me again, before I answer the phone. I even have about 800 phone numbers marked as BS in my file, that way I don't need to waste my time answering their constant stupid calls either. As I sometimes try to explain to people, I bought this phone to make me money--Not Them.

Callers in my area are beginning to understand the difference between locksmiths having a location and those mobile only services who cannot be found after a job goes wrong

Google is not who is calling, but scammers pretending to be Google.

That said, I get a lot of calls from Yelp. I use the free version and only uploaded 1 picture. Once one of my customers left a positive review, I get at the top of the search every time. None of my competitors updated theirs, so I always get the call. I show up at the top of the Google search too due to carefully selecting the Meta tags on my web page. I actually got some help from the Dex guy when he searched to try and get more money out of me with their web services but was surprised how well I had it already set up. He simply said "change this" and I did.

I have had two clients leave reviews for me on Yelp. The folks from Yelp assured me that neither review can be seen by the viewing public,
and that until I pay up they will not allow anyone to see my reviews. Now you know why I hate Yelp

Interesting! I just grabbed my wife's phone as I know she has never used yelp. My ad shows up with reviews. I forgot about the existence of the "Call Now" button.

Google does not call you with regards to adwords.. it's SEO companies trying to sell you thier services..

I for an SEO software company (we sell our software to SEO companies)

if you are going to do adwords yourself you can, but there are many things you need to know to make it effective.. which words in which city are actually being searched for.. which ones have high/low competition for ads, cost for bids, clickes etc..

There are many things you can do on the pure organic search side to get good rankings, but they take time.

Actually I want nothing to do with Google or any of the other rancid scum floating along on the internet.
I have hired my own people to take care of my companies presence on the internet and they seem to be
doing a fine job. I don't need a bunch of useless phone calls all day long, I bought this phone to make me
money not to help some lazy butt moron waste my time

Isn't that like saying "I want nothing to do with locksmiths cause of those guys who show up and charge me double . But I'll pay this other locksmith cause I know them.. "

Your saying Google is bad cause a few companies ( WHO ARE NOT GOOGLE) call you to say they can get you better rankings ON GOOGLE.

Fyi. Your "company" is doing the exact same things that those other ones are offering. But they don't call you to bug you .

There is a difference. .

My ppint is that you don't like it when fly by night locksmiths give you a bad name.. I don't like it when fly by night Seo companies give the rest of us a bad name.

Don't put me in that bunch of bad apples I'll return the favor..
