I don't know about you, but i haven't seen this before. A new Kwikset design -- first there is a black cover held onto the outside assy, with 2 screws. It comes apart like any other Kwikset -- use the "pickle fork" to get the cylinder out, standard procedure. Next there is a new snap ring on the back, this one really holds on tight. The bible cover is not removable easily, but one can do it. AND the biggest thing I found ... this one has spool pins in most of the top pins..... NEXT problem was this.
So I am supposed to change these four locks. No problem, just pull a pre-cut set from the pile and go for it. xxx6x was the combo. Only problem? The key won't pull out of the lock. WHY? Buzzed me too. My first thought was master pins, as this was a housing development, and many of those have a master for the builder -- that is when I found the spool pins, but no master. NOW WHAT? Looking at the thing it looked "odd" - I have seen zillions of Kwikset locks in 50 years in the trade but this one looked different. Time for a reality check.
Pulled my cylinder box out and dug for another Kwikset knob insert. Compared the two -- the new one is "shorter" than the old one. Problem? With the spool pins the "6" binds up in the chamber. Solution? Stuff a .120 top pin in that one and now the key comes out. I am not worried about a rekey or anything else, as these looked like box locks anyway, so they will probably just toss them and replace next time.
Just a heads up if you are having a problem with this lock.

I think if a company wants help that care about their product, they need to pay for it I have opened new boxes of Kwikset Deadbolt locks with a full lip strike plate inside, that annoys me and I Never saw that happen when it was made in the US and that isn't a patriotic statement, it's just the sad truth

Full lip strikes belong in the knob & lever lock boxes, deadbolts do not use a 'full lip' strike plate as the lip portion is needed to help the latch retract before latching. Of course on a Gate Lock type of deadbolt I would expect to find a Full Lip type of strike plate also

I misread your post. Too many hours at work this week! That said, I have seen a few deadbolts that use full lip strikes, I guess it helps protect the frame when people inadvertently slam it with the bolt extended part way.

I know what you mean. I ordered several deadbolts from Clark Security and half of them were defective. The screws that go through the deadbolt were not threaded correctly, so they would not go into the holes. Increasingly, it seems everything is made overseas now and to a lesser standard. When I called Clark to complain and get a return slip and refund, they didn't even seem surprised.
