GMS MX2 keyway

Anyone use the GMS MX2 key system? I need a way to keep the local box stores from duplicating keys for a business, but they do not have the need or want for a BEST system. I am wanting opinions, pro or con before I place an initial order.

Not being a locksmith, I don't know much about controlled key systems. I understand that with GMS, keyways are not proprietary but restricted. You are protected by only assign a particular keyway profile in your area. Not sure how wide the area is. You will also have to sign a contract, I think, and also agree to purchase a certain number of blanks year. Would Schlage Everest be a better route? Just curious. I am still learning. Question.... would CX5 be a viable alternative?

Cost of entry is the main reason. The added security of the Schlage Everest side bar is not really needed in this case. The Schlage Everest is almost as expensive as the BEST system by the time I get the components the client needs.

I have the paperwork/information for the MX2 and my distributor suggested it, but I am not finding any real world reviews.

There was discussion on here about the MX sometime around 2011. Not sure what is different with the MX2.

Why not just use the lori 80 or 90 series, or even LSDA's proprietary keyway? I bet they are lots cheaper and don't sell their key to the hardware store

None of my distributors stock Lori (Ilco owns them now?). Even HL Flake doesn't stock it. The GMS is not cost prohibitive, much cheaper than Schlage Everest.

I do not have an account with McDonald Dash. I did find the Ilco 80 instead of the Lori 80 at my regular distributor. But the cost seems to be just a bit less than the MX2.

LOL. I am probably going to do that. I was hoping to find someone that has actually used it. But it was good to learn about Lori/Ilco 80 as I was not aware of that low cost option.

there are multiple MX kewyays - 1, 2, etc in numerical order. I know HL Flake is the sole supplier of a few of them, and you sign a contract in order to purchase cylinders and blanks.

I have an MX keyway from flake. I dont think you will be disappointed for the cost. Just know that while it offers some protection there is nothing to stop someone from buying the blanks on ebay.

Overall I have been more than happy with it for what it is.

Thank you! I just need to stop people from going to the hardware stores and box stores for copies. Small businesses cannot afford some of the other options, especially if they only need a couple locks and a dozen keys. The company that started me on the lower cost quest needs 35 or so padlocks. I can do the MX keyway for about half of a BEST. Schlage Everest was my second choice before I was told about the MX program.

I have MX1 and MX2 good keys and locks .. nice and tight .. better than LSDA
