Strattec BOLT lock

Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

This is interesting. I wonder how well they hold up?

The padlocks are nifty. I gave one I got at a convention to a co-worker; it's keyway matched his Jeep's key. Still going AFAIK. I think this line, in one capacity or another, has been around since 2007? 2008? Definitely a clever concept.

What is the security like on one of these? Can it be reset once you set it?

I would just worry about it getting targeted if someone finds a simple override.

Neat concept though.

From what I understand, “programming” the key is a one-shot deal. Have not tried taking the one I have apart, though it is tempting if only to see how it works.

Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.

Very interesting. Though I wonder if you can override that feature, as it does house the internal ability to work with different keys.

As long as that vulnerability isn't exploited it should be as secure as any other automotive lock.
