A few utility questions.

Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

Completely agreed, having several family members with that allergy. In reality, I don't think you'll run into that problem much, but if you want to be proactive about stopping it from happening again, find a piece of packing foam (used in packing electronics quite often), and cut it out to fit snugly in a 2 1/8" hole. Even a scrap of foam rubber from an upholstery shop would work.

I have 2 icepicks for this, bent at a right angle about 1/4 inch from the tips.
One in each hole , then gently spread and push the ring off,
reverse to put back on.
I use another icepick with a 1/2 inch right angle tip for many other jobs.
Wonderful tools. :)
