Tyler, Congratulations on your article in TNL

Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

I've got a running list but I don't mind pushing stuff to the top of the pile as long as you guys, the readers, benefit. That's the whole point behind the articles. Next month will cover key decoding methods (but I have a feeling it will be a recap for many of you on here!).

There is the saying that you know what you know, and you may know what you do not know, but it is what you do not know that you do not know that will get you. Articles about common land mines in lock smithing would be nice. The things pros just go right through while the apprentice takes half a day.

Also, overviews different areas would be good: emergency exit alarms, Simplex locks, door closers, handi-cap door openers, aluminum store front doors, etc. A broad overview, then what one will find in the wild and the top issues and solutions are would be nice. The basic basics are OK, but one can get that out of a library book. Where almost every book I have seen falls down is in going over common problems with common devices. In Phillip's books he has installation instructions on locks that have not been made in thirty years--and anyone can just download Installation guides these days anyway. How about some articles on what goes wrong with common devices? "You'll run into this someday and here is what you need to know to turn 3 hours of pain into 15 profitable minutes."

I've got a large multi-parter planned for door closers soon; might get that one going next. I hear you regarding basic basics. Maybe a few are in order with regards to common diagnosing/servicing for various lock types. I did value the original incarnation of Beginner's Corner. I can't remember the guy that did it but he devoted multiple articles and got very in depth on certain, singular topics - rekeying and impressioning come to mind. I always enjoyed reading them.

Thanks for the input.
