Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

OK, just texted with one of my suppliers and he is saying that the 175 definitely comes with a 1/2" throw grade 2 latch, not a 9/16" throw grade 1 latch. So you shouldn't have any issue with finding 2 3/8" backset latches.

The offshore undercutting horseshit has to end. People are so afraid to lose potential jobs that they'll be happy to sell garbage if it means they get the job - which undercuts American jobs and American materials. Nothing like dooming your industry for the quick satisfaction of a quick profit!
The next post on my blog is going to highlight American made and owned locksmith products. It's a quick and easily compiled list that I'm sure a lot of locksmiths would appreciate.
So I ordered some Marks 9900 exit devices and trim, and guess what. The box doesn't list made in USA, so I look at the lock, yup you guessed it Made In Taiwan stamped in it, large as life. Well, I compare the exit device to the similar model from LSDA and guess what, exactly the same. So if you want to buy Marks USA registered trademark exit devices for more money than the exact same thing from LSDA then be my guest. Now I have egg on my face as I told the customer that the Marks product was made in the USA.

That's unfortunate to hear. Must be recent. Or they must have applied for a waiver to maintain the Buy American Act compliance. I've never seen that before.

Well I bought 12 of them and they all say Made In Taiwan. Perhaps the box is made in the USA.

I just got in 15 of their level locks, yes, made in Dominican Republic too. Where are you guys buying the USA made Marks stuff, or did you just assume because their name is Marks USA?

No one is assuming anything. MARKS made their name for years on offering products manufactured in the U.S. There is a slew of product literature attesting to this; we have older (see pre 2017) MARKS binders with products cut sheets stamped with "Crafted with Pride in the USA". In fact, their website still proclaims adherence to the Buy American Act and the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. Your experience, however, suggests that they have deviated and, at the very least, are simply assembling in America on some of their products, if not the entire line.

I just contacted Marks and asked them which is it-- Manufactured in the US or not? I'm sure they'll get back with some believable lies shortly

So did Schlage, but we know how that went. I know Marks used to be made in the USA, but they seem to be going out of their way not to mention on their website what is still made in the USA. I am guessing their gate locks and their architectural lines. When did they become part of Napco Alarm Lock? I ask because they have manufactured for years in the Dominican Republic.

I went on the Marks website, hit Contact Us and wrote "I have been told that your products are manufactured in the US, recently I saw a Marks product that was stamped 'made in the Dominican Republic-- Which is it? And the response made by Donna Ehmann from website@napcosecurity.comwas Dominican Republic
