What I couldn't show in pictures was that with the plug seated in they cylinder, and the tail piece screwed firmly in place, there was a 3-5 thousandths gap between the back of the cylinder and the tailpiece as well. Definitely fodder for the brass bucket.

Yes, trash it. However in a pinch a file will let you use a cylinder like that temporarily.
