Stolen Milk......

Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

Stolen Milk......

Postby DR_WOLFSBURG » 8 Aug 2015 22:19

It was a normal Tuesday afternoon where i was just doing the normal Re-keys and duplicates for my customers, but then boom i had a question
that i really had to think about the situation and a problem solved for this particular customer.

This guy walks into my shop looking kind of confused. age around maybe late 50's

Hes asking questions about different type of locks and shackle lengths. Question in mind he goes ahead and says i need to put a lock on my
fridge...

"laughing" i said having problems with roommates?

He says he lives alone in a apartment complex. He says people keep coming into my home and they wont stop drinking my milk.
like this is just a normal thing right?

he said there neighbors and one guy hes never seen before. i asked do you lock your front door? he said sometimes but it doesn't always work....

...........so moral of the story is putting a lock on your fridge to protect your milk is more important that a lock on your front door.
go figure lol

LOL, good one!

The guy probably forgets his keys and has locked himself out one time too many, so he just leaves the door unlocked.

I guess I hope none of you guys gets old and starts getting dementia. What this is, is basically very sad. In more ways than one.

I was just thinking the same thing, I have seen this happen in more then 1 case (I once re-keyed the same door 5 times for this reason )

Everyone is talking about dementia, but the post said he was in his late 50s. Isn't that a little early for dementia?

I think the scarier thing to consider is this roving gang of milk thieves.

I was an apartment super for a while. One tenant would put a chain and padlock on his fridge whenever someone needed to work in his suite. Said he'd had trouble in another building with food being stolen.

I once had a customer who wanted Medeco on all her doors because she thought her locks were being picked...by the CIA.

I had a guy about a week ago try to get me to install a medaco on a hollow core door...He freaked out when I tried to explain the he shouldn't be using a hollow core closet door as his front door. In short I wouldn't install it, he got upset, I drove off. I guess that's what happens when you advertise your services on craigslist haha.

Untreated, mild, schizophrenia can provoke similar symptoms. It's very common for the police to receive calls for similar "crimes".

I had a guy who call to report that his neighbors were picking open his front door lock, drinking his juice, and then repicking the lock in order to lock it.

A woman once complained that her super was doing the same, only he was using her shampoo, and then refilling the bottle with... "other" ... fluids. She didn't want to expand about what she meant by that...

There was one woman who had only one door to her condo, on the 12th floor. The door what laminated with steel, in a steel frame, in a concrete wall. She had an Abloy Protec 2 deadbolt, AND a Medeco Biaxial deadbolt. Yet despite these security measures, someone was breaking in, borrowing her crystal figurines, and then breaking in to bring them back a few weeks later. She would then file complaints against the officers who refused to file a B&E report...

Sadly, it's really very frequent. Often times they are very lonely people as well...

Some may have the beginnings of dementia, as well.

Funny things do happen. . .

Around the firehouse you can leave out a $5, $10 or $20 better yet any amount of money out on the counter, table, dorm room but. . . the fellow firefighers will eat any and all food in the fridge!
A lock is there to keep a honest person honest!

But there are people coming and going out of the firehouse all the time, these people are using the products themselves and just can't remember. It is really a shame.
