Fix THIS --- !!!

I am not sure if it was here or on another smith board I first broached this one. But here is the back story -

Old account, a good way out, like almost 55 miles, and the problem is the stupid tenants keep on taking the hardware off the door, so the door won't lock. I mean they take out the lock gang, the mounting tabs, drill out my screw holes and totally destroy the door. SO last time was the fourth go around, this is what I found this time ---





I suppose I could reinstall another electric strike, or not, that side hole is too deep for the box and cover to totally hide.

I was not out there to fix this, but to find out what they did to another door on the unit. Fixed that with a new cylinder, but I just had to stop over and see this one. Now what?

Jennie said they may just replace the whole thing, door frame and all and put in a camera. I don't think a camera is going to work in this case, seeing how they went to all the trouble to do this much damage -- a camera? Just something else to destroy. Trust me they will.

The best part is nobody heard or saw anything. OMERTA if you need to know. I haven't told you where or what type of tenants live in this place but know this is a rough neighborhood...

Why does that look like it is the door for the front of an SRO type rooming house entrance ?

Why do the tenants/occupants keep dismantling the door lock ?

Does the landlord/management company charge for key replacement ?

There is more going on behind that sort of intentional damage than someone who is bored.

I would recommend to your client that they hire someone to man that doorway for a while.

Then consider some policy changes to reduce the tenants vs. landlord/management micro-climate that is clearly being expressed here.

I had much the same problem, I wound up installing a Federal (like American)slide bolt at the bottom of each door and re-inforced the door bottoms with solid steel bar stock from home depot. The front doors got these bolts and the employees left by the rear steel doors, they had Medeco double deadbolts on them. I haven't seen another attack, and the doors are so secure, they don't move.

The real problem I find is these businesses keep leaving cash lying around. I tell them they need an Amsec type small square depository that can't be easily opened, that is hidden & fastened somewhere hard to find. Criminals don't like working for free

Id suggest
Replace the frame
(Unless they need it for some reason)get rid of electric strike
And fit a 2 part interlocking blocker plate
(Like used for covering non rebated double doors)
And having done that side of door
Fit hinge bolts (if using standard butt hinges)
Or a continuous hinge
But

That still leaves the problem of
Glass panel in the door

if the building is alarmed
And you can work with the alarm
Fit a simple series circuit of foil stripe circuits
Where the Screw joins both pieces completing the circuit
As an additional (in series) antitamper to the door

Of course that doesn't help the lock side...

It it the tenants that don't like the inconvenience of the locked door?
No matter what you put on it is going to get broken. And the more secure it is the more damage they will do. I would suggest installing a cheap easily bypassed lock to satisfy whatever requires you to lock it and still give access to the stupid tenants that keep breaking it. Like jeep owners that leave their doors unlocked to keep from replacing slashed Windows.
I work in a bad part of a big city and I've been to almost every apartment building and they all have the same problem no matter how good the door and lock.

Onsite Caretaker.
Brick up the door.
Remove the door entirely.
Evict.

Do your crack dealers need access for their customers?

Hardened steel interlocking blocker plates and steel security frame. Hardened tamper resistant screws or welding.

Or just figure out why the tenants remove the lock and address the real issue. Maybe just using a push button mechanical codelock will keep everyone happy.

Surprised that the door didn't have an exit sign above it.

They all had signs about the Doors Must Remain Open During Business Hours, and the employees didn't lock the auxillary bolts until closing time
and when those bolts were locked, you better believe those doors stayed closed!
