Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

Can anyone supply me with the core remover cuts for the Chicago FR series. I have several credenzas that the customer wants keyed alike and I cannot seem to get the plug to hook out. I hope this model is a removeable core type as some are not. Thanks.

The key is available from suppliers who handle Chicago / Comp X lock. Order P-1076 for the plugs, and K100-RK68 for the key. I will not in an open forum tell you the cuts, nor the key blanks - nor how to do it. There is a special way to cut the key so it works in the lock.

This gives me an idea Sinifar. There are certain things you guys want to share locksmith to locksmith that may be a little more sensitive than others, and the only way to do that is via PM right now, but then other locksmiths on the forum won't get to see it, especially if it is useful info. I think I'll make a Locksmith specific sub forum in the Advanced Topics area, not sure what to call it quite yet, but I'll come up with something. *It would be tricky to make it just so locksmiths can see it (since that means giving rights and permissions user by user) instead anyone with Advanced access will be able to see it, but at least it will still be protected from prying eyes. If such an area was set up, would you guys feel comfortable sharing key codes, specialty blanks, and other related stuff there or would you still want to keep it to PMs only? Thanks, Squelchtone

I would feel comfortable sharing key codes and other locksmith-only type info, From what I have observed the forum is very careful about just who does gain access to the Advanced Areas Of course, being locksmiths there is a reluctance to reveal much, but at least You could make it do able, Squelchtone

It would hep if you knew who was for sure a locksmith - many of us are, that is obvious, but who else?
As far as a way to lock out most, have a different log in - just for that board, not chosen by the user - but by you, and give it out by PM to those who will need it. Just my suggestion...

That would be great, but I really don't have time to vet who is or isn't a real locksmith, so I can't just do it for the dozen or so members who I've come to know are actual locksmiths, and if some new locksmith comes along and says he's been a locksmith for 20 years and I should let him in there and he'll fax me his business card, well that's the same problem we've had for years with the Advanced areas. We simply don't have a secretary or time to call people, or call ALOA, or SAVTA, or the BBB, or get copes of people's state locksmith license certs faxed to us. As far as a different login for just that Advanced- Locksmith area, unfortunately phpbb doesn't work that way very well, I can password protect a main forum but not a sub forum, phpbb works much better when it pulls permissions based on who the member is and which member groups they're a part of. I'll try to set a password right now on the Locksmith Lounge, but I'm not sure it will let me... Raymond: sorry for hijacking your thread, but it's so you actually get the answers you seek.. Hope someone has helped you via PM already. Thanks for your feedback Sinifar, Squelchtone Update: I set a password on the Locksmith Lounge as a test and it seemed to work well. before I logged into Locksmith Lounge it didn't even show New Posts from that sub forum when I clicked View New Posts. That's the only trouble I can think of, if someone only uses the View New Posts button, they'll never notice new threads or replies in the Advanced - Locksmith area unless they visit it manually. If that's not a big deal then I'm ok setting a password, I'll PM those of you who I know are locksmiths, and you can share it with whomever you like who is a locksmith who also has Advanced access on the forum. a new member who is a locksmith would still have to get their Advanced access, before being able to go to the Advanced- Locksmith area and put in their password. This may not be the best way to implement this, and I need to think it over, but let's roll with this for now, I can always move things around later if it's too confusing or difficult to use by members.
