Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

So a few months back i bought a 97 ford ranger and ive had a hell of a time finding a key to fit it. The one key it came with works for the drivers door and ignition and is an ilco mz30-p. I do know that parts from the 93 to 99 ranger and mazda b series pickups are for the most part interchangable so im guessing the ignition and at least drivers door lock have been changed at some point. So two questions: where can i buy a mz30-p blank? Ive checked like 15 different places and they havnt had a match. Second, is it possible to repin the passenger door lock to work with my existing key or am i better off not bothering?
Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most!

It is a common blank, any locksmith can cut one for you. I would just use the Ilco H75 blank which is the Ford blank. Yes it is possible to rekey the passenger side to match. We would charge $35 to do that at our shop, it takes about 10 minutes.

Unfortunately going to a locksmith isnt an option. Closest one to where i live is 3 hours away. Also the h75 doesnt work, its close but not quite long enough, allready tried it.

I have to wonder if, because you are in Canada maybe the locks are slightly different. Also, quick Google search resulted in this .. https://securitylocking.com/ilco-mz30-p-mazda-x247p
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

Sorry fellas, I have to draw the line before asking for blanks turns into how do I pick this car door open. Beginner Lock Picking Questions is not the right place to ask about automotive blanks.
gonna move to this Locksmith Lounge, as I do not see the need to move it to the restricted Automotive area.. yet.

Oh, ive allready picked it... Kinda had no choice after the wife locked the keys in the truck. I had intended to post this in the restricted area in all honesty but i still havnt been granted access.
Back to the subject at hand, is there anything like the kwickset rekeying kits for vehicles? It would be nice to have both doors, ignition ad tailgate lock all on the one key.

You can buy a keying kit, your lock sounds like the '8-cut' system The cost is likely kinda high to just use it for one door lock, I would charge $35 to rekey your single lock, in my shop

Ilco has an online search feature that will tell you the blank for any vehicle once you enter make, model and year. How is this taboo?

It isn't. As Squelchtone said, talking about picking car locks is. Cheers

OK, I misunderstood. I didn't see mention of picking until Squelchtone brought it up.

I mentioned it because my experience tells me how these threads end up going, which is why we have a clear line with hobby picking section, and the automotive, safes, and bypass/ high security locks having their own area. We start to muddy the water and then we might as well just have just 1 forum called free for all and not have any organization or rules. But yeah, honestly, the Ask Beginner Hobby Lock Picking Questions was not the right area for this thread, I figured putting it in Locksmith Lounge would at least get some help from locksmiths who may know the blank OP needs. The existing key i have is the mz30-p, hence my provlem. Its not original to the truck. Im looking for that specific blank so i can have a second key made.
