.005? .003? Is there is difference? Well yes and no. The biggest thing is Schlage are all green pins. This eliminates the color code read problem. I have a Lab woody, and all my Schlage pins in that kit, it is a .005 kit, are .003 pins. Since the majority of locks rekeyed around here are Schlage, this gives the pin color readers fits. Just one more way of upping the security of mechanical locks.
In the truck, I have a full Ilco .005 kit with ,150 thru ,360 bottom pins. You never know when you will run into a Euro cylinder. But I also carry a Lab mini .003 for those Corbin - Russwin locks which work much better with the close pins (,003). BUT the biggest unit I use on a daily basis is the Lab 3 in 1 kit. Schlage, Kwikset, and Weiser. it is a ,003 kit, and I have master pins carefully stored in that insert on the top of the bottom pins. It works well and I recently did a 65 lock rekey job with it, taking the pin kit to the doors and pinning on site and not taking them back down to the truck and back up. Key on the run as it was. It saves time and gets the job done faster.
