kwikset reset cradle broke

my kwikset force reset cradle broke today, i probably only used it less than ten times. what the hell happened? the whole thing started getting loose and the stupid rod in the back that forces the cylinder to turn after the wafers have been engaged was wrecked.

is this a faulty manufacturing issue or is it due to some sort of different kwikset lock that doesnt allow the cradle to work?

I like the way you described it 'kwikset force reset cradle' however in reality you know it's mostly just junky plastic. I'm surprised you were able to bust it, many times after using mine I have thought that I broke mine, but not yet. I bet kwikset, or your distributor would be happy to warrantee it for you.

ill take pictures later but essentially the hole that houses screw that keeps the spring in became stripped and the pin that goes into the back of the cylinder that grabs the cylinder and forces it to turn became stripped as well. i was able to unscrew it and make it work one last time by knocking the pin up higher but then the whole entire spring mechanism became loose and would pop out while i attempted to turn the absolute crap kwikset smart key cylinder

Has anyone seen the reset tool that simply looks like a comb pick? Sounds great for resetting the wafers.

I've had 3 of these things fail. Only one tech at our shop ever has failures so I assume he isn't doing something correctly.

I found a broken one when I started at my lockshop, and called kwikset. All they required for the warranty was a picture to prove that you bought one. Sent one right out.

the comb pick type reset tool is called the better resetter and works with kwikset smartkey and the schlage securekey
