Best way to gain credibility

Postby pickmonger » 17 Jul 2015 9:14

I live in Ontario, Canada

We don't have licensing for locksmiths in Ontario.

What is the best way to credibly when needing to join sites and organizations.

I was told by several locksmiths that some of the schools like Foley Belsaw are considered a joke and add little to my credibly.

More to the point if a cop asks me what I am doing when picking a customers lock or just in possession of lock tools.

I already carry business cards, employee id, invoices, copy of State (provincial) registration of the business
and Sales Tax license.

With those things you already carry, you should have no problems convincing a cop that you are a credible locksmith. With the business license, that is all that is needed for many supply companies.

The best way I have found to gain credibility with cops out my way is knowing how to do your job and doing a good job.
As you know, anyone can buy a set of picks, not everyone has the ability to properly repair a broken lock. Last week the
marshal called on me to repair a leverset in the police building next door. The screws holding the lock together had unscrewed
but the lever trim was covering them up. I got my spanner wrench, loosened and removed the lever trim, which exposed the
loose screws. A few seconds later I had them tight, along with the lever trim. I always try to get the repair done before the marshal
arrives, as he is cheap & crafty enough to fix it himself next time, if he sees how I did it.
Anyhow I heard the cops talking about how fast I was able to repair their problem lock and that is respect, to me, well that or the $55 I charged
