Becoming a locksmith in louisiana

Postby Rb1962 » 10 Feb 2016 20:14

Looking for guidance in the process of becoming licensed in Louisiana. I have worked with lock and door hardware for over 20 years doing maintenance type work. I am considering getting certified and all I have been able to find out is take an online course and pass their test, then pass Louisiana state test will get you started. What online school is best (Penn foster) ? I already know life safety, have liability insurance and city business license. Just having trouble choosing a school , it would be nice to find a school that also qualifies you for state? Any and all advise is welcome!!! I like the online idea because I already have a job that Im not leaving.

Honestly, if I were you, I would just attend the Six-Day Basic Locksmithing course in Dallas. It'll be virtually the same cost as a correspondence school and it will satisfy one of Louisiana's technician certifications requirement.

Good luck. Former co-worker's grandfather was the main guy in implementing licensing in Louisiana. They're one of the few states that get it right.
