Any Canadian Foley-Belsaw students?

Wondering which locksmith course to take? Looking for locksmith license info for your locale? This is the forum for you.

Any Canadian Foley-Belsaw students?

Postby Scarley8 » 1 Apr 2016 17:46

I'm looking at some training and trying to compare a few courses.

I know many locksmiths have taken the Foley-Belsaw program and I'm trying to figure out the cost. I know with an American provider I need to factor in the exchange rate (which is disgusting right now, bringing the cost to about $1070), but what I don't know is the cost of shipping and duties.

I asked through the website about taking the course from Canada and the company only said:

"Hello, We ship our courses to Canada often. You must pay for the course in
full at $829.00 US plus actual shipping costs via US Mail.
Any taxes, duties or fees are your responsibility."

So if you are a current or recent Foley-Belsaw student from Canada, how much do you pay for shipping, taxes, fees, and duties?

Another option is to simply buy someone's used course materials off eBay.
You might not get a certificate, but you can get all the knowledge, sometimes for as little as $25-$50.

Depending on the person you interview with, just being able to show them you can do something can have as much value as showing them a piece of paper that says you can. Maybe even more value to just show them.

Thanks MBI. I might just do that, but that piece of paper comes in handy sometimes too. Spending over a grand so I can put a certification on a resume seems a bit too steep. It is better than the $1000 for the one day in person course by TAOL (The Association of Ontario Locksmiths).

I was also considering studying for the CRL test from ALOA.

I live in Ontario where I technically need nothing to be a locksmith.

Browse around the forum, there has been a lot of discussion of different types of locksmith training that's available. SOPL is another you can check out. Most of the course material is available for free. As I recall there is only a charge if you want to take the tests to get the certifications.
