cabinetmakers shops have the best hardwood scraps. but never very big pieces. Ask a cabinet maker, he may have an indoor scrap barrel with oak, maple even cherry and will probably give you a good deal, since these are all cutoffs from projects already paid for where the customer bought the wood.

Just recently I paid a visit to Totem, and upon inquiring for some very short pieces, got escorted to the back where they showed me the scrap bin and said, "take what ya need." Nice, clean wood, and all I wanted.
The local "lumber yards" here all put their scraps in the compactor in the back room. I have tried. But I will keep looking around for scrap when the snow melts and the builders around here all get busy again

What's the point of locking yourself in some place when you are actually learning to pick locks.

Maybe he uses my technique:
A toolbox with three padlocks on it. I have to pick them all to get to the tools I want, as I left the keys in my hometown. Inside, I like to pick a few more before I actually get what I was looking for. I have a similar setup on my key case at home, but I haven't really had any chance to pick into that lately.

nope going to finally get to HD in 2 weeks when tax money comes in and I can afford to get some extras.. [/quote]
I got the "lock bargain box" from Foley in the mail the other day, for the $89. it is worth it. Contains 3 types of ignition as well as door and padlock and other stuff. It is worth at least 2X that if the stuff was purchased locally. If you can afford it, then buy your practice locks thru Foley.
I also got the "surprise package" deal. They sent me volume 12 of the Reed code book as well as 2 books on car opening technics and a tubular lock. Can't beat it. I like to live a little dangerous and willl take advantage of "surprise packs" occassionally from different places (although you do have to watch out for those sent by the adult movie industry ) !

I can't help thinking that the contents of a surprise pack from the adult movie industry would be entirely unsurprising, unless it happened to contain only PG rated material...
(By the way, how do you arrange to get sent surprise packs by the adult movie industry? )

Just got my student ID card in the mail today, went over all the information they included and called my department office to see if I got any packages =)
Hope to see my first 10 (or so) lessons soon. Wish me luck!

Cool that you got your stuff, good luck with your course, I am taking it slow as I am having some difficulty with manually picking the darn lock they sent with lesson 11. I have the entire lesson done except picking that darn lock.

Well it has been over 2 weeks since I sent my second set of tests in to be graded (and even received the results back), but still have not received the next set of instructions! Am gonna call the school tomorrow and see whats up. I just finished with lessons 11-15 today as I had a bugger of a time with picking the darn lock with the sliding bolt in, (once I removed the sliding bolt I could pick it with all 5 tumblers in like 20 seconds), but the bolt seems to be binding the locking mechanism. Oh well this is the 2nd one of these little locks that is not functioning well. Anyhow I hope that everybody elses lessons are going well.
B-T-W the picking board I built is working very well for me. I have car locks, door locks and padlocks of many different types on it and can take stuff on and off very easily to see how it functions.

If I wait will they sweeten the deal?

Wait a couple of weeks. They will lower thier price.
If you can't wait, phone them and ask what thier bottom line price is.

Can I still jack them for the pick gun? Is it "within the next 14 days" or within the next 14 days?
