Texas Locksmithing

Postby damonwill » 25 Jan 2022 10:25

All, I love cracking safes. ITs my new retirement hobby. And I'm gettting good enough for neighbors to ask for my help with safes they have forgotten the combos to. I know I can't legally open a safe for any kind of compensation without a license. But to get a license, I have to apprentice for a year. I'm to old to work for someone for a year. Is there any other option? And I just like safes. No interested in cars, houses, or making keys.

This is not a hobby for those whom you will be taking bread off the table. If you want to compete, you need to invest the time.

I get that. Which is why I'd just do safes. And for those that are in a hurry and are fine with having it drilled, I'd recommend a locksmith do that. From the smiths I've talked to, they aren't interested in non-drilling cracking and opening safes is a VERY small percentage of their work on top of that. How many times have you spent a couple hours or days manipulating someone's personal safe?

Personally, several times. It is not common as you say. Most people want a 100% guarantee the effort will be successful. It isn't, at that rate anyway. My estimate for drill and repair is normally set in stone. It is easier for them to get comfortable with.

Yep, that is what my local smiths have said. And I'm talking with a couple to see if I could apprentice with them for safes. Probably the best way to go.
