Good afternoon everyone,
I am looking to complete the program offered by The Ontario Association of Locksmiths. I have a decent grasp of the technical components of most locks and how they work. Where I definitely need practice and training is in installation for commercial and residential locks. And obviously quite a bit more but that's a gap I believe I am missing for basic locksmithing skills in order to enter the industry.
That said, Ontario does not license or require an apprenticeship. program. There really is no formal accreditation to open a business but I wouldn't do that not having all the necessary skills.
I presently work in a full time job that pays well but for a series of reasons, I am looking at other options. I do currently work in the overarching field of security so this isn't a major 180 change for me, just a more realistic long term consideration.
If any Ontario locksmiths on here or members of the Ontario association can weigh in on their training it would be great. Ideally I would like to find a locksmith who may need someone part time that I could also learn from along the way. Not sure if that's realistic but just floating that idea out there.
