existing impressioning threads will be moved to this area

A skill known and practiced for years by seasoned locksmiths, impressioning a working key from a blank is a popular new addition in locksport circles everywhere. Get your blanks and Pippin files and get busy!

existing impressioning threads will be moved to this area

The admin and moderator team will be moving existing impressioning threads to this area over the next month. Some threads may remain where they are if it makes more sense to leave them there (example: a thread about Pippin file pricing in the Locksmith Supplies area, may stay there, a thread in Automotive about impressioning an ignition, will stay in Automotive)

This area is more for hobby impressioning as an extension to the lock picking hobby, versus daily locksmith work impressioning, but all are welcome to add to the conversation.

If anyone wants to put together a tutorial with photos on the basic steps of impressioning, your submission would become a sticky for all to read.

Thanks everybody!

may i make a request or suggestion, just my 2 cents, that if someone does indeed make a tutorial out of the kindness of their hearts, using their valuable time, please, if it is to be stickied, please please use legit terminology and theory. if i am out of line with this request as a hobbyist then i do apologize, and will not post a request like this in the future. it is not my intention to say that anyone cannot or would not be considered for sticky, but for the sake of the community, and future enthusiasts that have no previous knowledge of impressioning, please consider 'what you may think you know', versus legitimate experience and formalized training are not the same thing. i am personally guilty for having used incorrect terminology in previous write ups, which only lead to confusion in explaining a simple technique. do not make my mistake. just my 2 cents, i look forward to reading any and all info on impressioning. i apologize if this request has come off as rude. i just feel that tutorials should have some degree of professionalism and legitimacy. im very sorry if this is wrong, or if this is not the right place to express this opinion.

totally agree. we prefer quality and accuracy over rushing to put something together in hopes it becomes a sticky.

If your tutorial is riddled with errors, I would rather we work together as a community to clean it up and make it a document many people had their hands in before we make it a sticky.

It can also be a thread with replies and running corrections, but for the sake of future members a single page tutorial versus clicking through 8 pages of replies to learn how is obviously preferred.

I cant wait to get my #16 Popov file and wing it across my ziggy blank bracket in order to sniff out the dank key swirls.
