question about key impressioning

Yes, it is possible. In some ways, the serrated pins make it easier to get marks. Read the threads on impressioning pin tumbler locks, and you can get lots of tips. Far too many to put into this one thread.

I personally don't consider American Lock padlocks "high security" did it say "high security" on the packaging or something?

That term becomes relative and changes with context as you learn about other brands and types of lock mechanisms.
