SC1 brass blanks

I just ordered a dozen brass 1145 (SC1) blanks from CLK Locksmithing supplies.
I need to keep practicing impressioning--and using a lock that has inexpensive blanks. I itend to bend and break more than I should.

I also ordered a simple ILCO lockpick case, some cylinder shims for rekeying, and a couple more picks.

If you are bending and breaking blanks, you need to use less turning force when impressioning. Don't use more than twice the turning force you use to turn the key.

Good advice! I did not know that. I thought it marks didn't appear I had to turn and shake harder.

Have you tried using a Sharpie?

I have used a Sharpie - but only on a new smooth blank to get the spacings right.

The original Schlage 35-100C keys are made from nickel silver, so they're stronger than brass

They don't mark as well though.
