My caliper's at work, but eyeballing it, the bitting for the 77 is approximately 1124 bow-to-tip. The shallow bitting in the first three positions rules out any of my stock of cut keys. Definitely an indirect code on the case; because they're so easy to pick and/or impression, I've never bothered picking up Master code books, though .

My first successful foil impression (generic 5 pin C keyway cylinder), and the key I cut from it.

This was my second attempt with the SC1 cylinder. I'd previously gone three rounds on a Kwikset, but with the blunt pins, the tape wasn't taking impressions well.

Impressioned my first Schlage KS34 with an Everest 29 core... The blank I used for impressioning barely made it, but held on long enough to get the last few cuts...

Did you manage to impression it with a nickel silver key? I'm impressed; I've never managed to successfully pull that off.

I'd forgotten about the Almont rekeyable padlocks. I played with my share - rekeying them, that is - back about 20 years ago, but for the life of me, aside from the little wire that enables you to remove the plug, can't remember the mechanics of it. I'll have to go find my old ones somewhere and get back in practice.

THANK YOU! You are a legend. This lock belongs to a member of my locksport group, several of us tried to pick it unsuccessfully. I then sent it to Nite Owl who gave it to you to impression. I owe you one

I'm not actually sure what the blanks were, but they look to be original Schlage. jeffmoss26 wrote:THANK YOU! You are a legend. They are original Schlage - nobody makes aftermarket blanks for these, they are in patent until 2029

Impressioned an old Kwikset lock that was in my junk box. The key almost snapped off near the end. I had found impressioning pin tumblers challenging in the past. Bought a 10X lighted magnifier from MBA ( http://mbausa.com/10x-key-impressioning-magnifier/ that helped a lot to see the marks. It is kind of pricey for what it is, and you have to provide your own Mini-Mag light to go with it, but it does help. The other thing that I learned was that one does not want a perfectly smooth surface when filing for a pin tumbler, it needs to be slightly rough--the small ridges can then be deformed by the pins.

Factory Kwikset pins can be tricky to impression due to the rounded pins. Nice job. Gordon
Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.

This is one aspect I have tried in the past but had no success.. I do want to make another run at it.. I have a WB that I figure I will need to impression so I have a key.
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

I know that ^ is from a while back but I just saw it so I thought I'd throw in its a 1092M (just for future reference) the CG17 is pretty close but I think a #1 cut might have given you issues! Either way nice job!
