American series 2000

Several weeks ago a lad gave me an American 2000 that came with a used van he bought. Things got no key and I want to try my hand at impressioning. Can anyone tell me how many pins this thing has, and what key blank to acquire? Also, has anyone ever impressioned one of these sucessfully?

We would need to see the keyway to tell you what key blank would fit. Many different keyways are available. You can count the pin stacks by inserting back of a hook pick and lifting up on all the pins, then slowly pulling the pick out and listening for the pins clicking as they drop down. You should have 5 or 6.

I'll have to post a picture when I get home. That won't be until this weekend, unfortunately.

Looks like an AM3

check with a pick if it is 5 pins or 6 pins. Ilco # 1045=5 pin, A1045= 6 pin
