A skill known and practiced for years by seasoned locksmiths, impressioning a working key from a blank is a popular new addition in locksport circles everywhere. Get your blanks and Pippin files and get busy!
I was lucky enough to find a #4 XF Round Nicholson file. The file is 8" long, but it is 1/4" wide, so that matches the Grobet. The price--because it was surplus on eBay--was substantially less than a Grobet, so I am willing to try it simply based on that. The handle is a simple wood Nicholson "B" size. Hopefully it works just fine. Pete

A good file like that is worth its weight in gold. Which seems to be about what they charge for them now...
Agreed about the worth of a good file. I keep mine in large diameter (3/4" / 19mm) irrigation tubing. One end I heated and melted shut in a vise. The other side I fold over and use a metal loop to keep it shut.
Another thing of serious worth is a file card. It is great for removing the metal filings from the files.
