Schlage 1467 and 1456 keyways ?

Got a cool old key? What keyway is this?! Need a key for that old steamer trunk or padlock? Do Not Duplicate got you down? What's that part number for that factory key section? Can anyone tell me what Schlage keyways the 1467 and 1456 keys fit ?

Those are two of Schlage's numbered system of keyways. It's a different family than the classic (obverse) line or anything Everest. Basically the four numbers are a sort of code that describe where warding is present or absent in a specific part of the keyway (I remember seeing a great graphic on exactly how it worked some years ago, but can't find it now and don't recall if it was on this forum or someplace else).

I think at one point this family was restricted (and may still be through Schlage). However it's possible to find stuff in this family now through other manufacturers, it's just really rare and expensive. For example, here's a couple of links where you can buy key blanks for them, but finding actual locks in this family is a bit harder:

No problem. FYI there's also a quad family which I think is designated by 4 letters instead of numbers, Everest, Primus, Everest Primus, Everest 29, reverse, and probably even a few other families I'm not recalling right now. Schlage has a lot of keyways in their lineup, more than most people realize. They've got to be pretty close to Corbin Russwin for the number they have...

That is correct about the other family being designated by 4 letters. They're end-user keys.
