It all started with Yale Linus Jr and patent US18169A in 1857. Look how far we've come. Post your patents here, discuss prior art, new designs, and various mechanisms important to the lock and lock picking world.
The Emhart lock with interlocking, rotating pins that caused a lawsuit from Medeco. I disagree with the outcome of that lawsuit, but the lock is so cool!

Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.
I've never seen one of these in real life. How long of a run did they have? And I agree with you... the way the key pins interlock with the top pins is wholly different from the Biaxial design. Any links to info on the lawsuit?
I've always thought Emhart was one of the better and most underappreciated designs in the pin tumbler space. Probably better than an Assa Twin, Schlage Primus, Marks Hi Security, or just about anything that Medeco makes. If I recall correctly, while they are still produced, you can no longer get a new key system in this line.
Beg to differ from a business standpoint ASSA beats all the others. No other system has as much versatility or is as reasonable in price for what you get. I pay $16 for a restricted cylinder! I can key restricted, and high security with the same keys, I can do SFIC and just about any LFIC using the same keys as I do for kik, mortise, profile, Scandinavian oval etc.

Very flexible!
