side bar wafers

side bar wafers

hi,
would you pick a side bar wafer lock the same as a normal double wafer lock,if so dose it just take that bit longer?

A bit, it may take a great deal longer. Some sidebar wafer locks take a great deal of time and patience. Some like to drill a hole to apply pressure to the sidebar. Ive never tried this, so i have no comment.

Chucklz is right, a side bar is a great security feature for a wafer lock, which makes it rough for lock pickers. If you aren't familiar with the concept, each wafer has an additional notch which must all be aligned for the side bar to fall into. The reason you want to put pressure on the side bar is to make the bar more noticable as it passes against the notches (because it usually just has a weak spring pressing on the bar).

Just saw this almost exact same question on Internet Locksmith, interesting.

Chucklz suggestions are good ones. Drilling for the side-bar makes life a lot easier.
