About a pick set....

Postby MaxxxaM » 16 Dec 2005 2:26

I'm in the army and I am in Iraq, so me time on the internet is limited.

I have recently acquired a pick set I don't remimber off hand who makes them....this set confuses me because it has about 100 tools. Some of them have flat handles and I was wandering if these are the more common tools? Also I have an almost unlimited padlock supply, would pad locks be a good starting point to learn?

Alright, at the top of this VERY forum, is a very useful guide to all things lockpicking. You can follow the link HERE.

More specifically, I would review the section in the guide that reads "All About Skillz", as most of the beginner info is located there.

If you read those guides, and still have problems, let us know.

P.S. In all honesty, you probably won't use even a quarter of the tools that you have.

Welcome to LP101 Maxam. :)

A beginner set with six or seven picks and three or four wrenches would serve you well. Also, the best way to practice is to remove pins from a standard cylinder out of a deadbolt or knobset and working up to five pins.

Haven't a clue who sells a 100-piece set... goodness.

Padlocks aren't really the ideal place to start, but they're not the worst, and if you've got a bunch that's a resource worth utilizing. What do you mean by "flat handles"?

Also, if you have access to a digital camera post a picture of your pickset. We will be able to better describe how useful all those extra picks are. Most of the time, not very.

SouthOrd offers 100 piece (and more) packages, but they include all different types of picks, pick guns, plug spinners, etc.

Indeed they do, although the quality of their non-handled picks leave something to be desired.
