tubular are not the hardest locks compared to some, but it would be interesting to see...

could you maybe get a vid of the scissor picking, or perhaps a photo ?

I have seen things in tubular locks that look like pins, but they are not brass, they are in between the regular spacings, and they are obviously steel pins, these do not move, and are some sort of wards to keep out the tubular picks, but they probably are ineffective against the bic pen. has anyone else seen these things, they appear to be of a slightly smaller diameter than the pins, perhaps to fit the spacing between pins.

Peterson pick or anything that doesn't need to press into the lock aside from the actual pinholes (er... pin chambers) probably wouldn't care.

If you would like an idea on how to do variable spacing on a tubular, how about this? (I'm trying it, but am a lazy type, so who knows how long it will take me)

I have a 5" long piece of 3/8" brass tubing that fits the center post in a tubular. ($1.38 at a hobby store for 12 inches)

Inside of this, I put a wooden dowel ($.39). In the end of the dowel, I cut a notch on one side, and put in a 1" piece of music wire (.032?) that fits into the notch on a tubular lock.

Now comes the part I haven't tried. On the brass tubing at hobby stores, the sizes all telescope (will fit tightly on the next smaller size - like a radio antenna).

So, we take (for example) 2" of the next larger size brass tubing. We place this on the 3/8 tubing, about 2 inches up the tube. Around the edge of this, we place 32 pieces of music wire, so that there is a "ring" of music wire. Around the music wire and larger tube, we wind one large rubber band, and put a hose clamp on the outside of the rubber band.

Where the music wire leaves the edge of the larger tubing and hits the 3/8" tubing, we place an o-ring (not TOO tight).

When we place the pick against the lock, we simple apply tension with the dowel-3/8 tubing, and then move the larger tubing (with wire pokers) forward into the lock a few times. The hose clamp may need to be adjusted like the tension ring on a purchased tool.

If I'm thinking right, this pick should do 7's, 8's, offsets, 10's, or anything.
