i have had a snap gun for a while and i can't seem to use it. i know how a lock works and am pretty experienced with picking a lock by hand. Im not sure what i'm doing wrong. I have read the manual and have watched a video. Any tips? I also understand that i am not going to succeed instantly. I know i need to practice and i have been, but it's not working.

It could be that the lock you're trying to snap has a really uneven pinning which is making the window when everything is above the sheer line really small. Or have you tried several locks?

Dont get discouraged dude, just keep trying, try on another couple of locks. You said you are experienced in lockpicking, go back and try on a couple of the locks you beat by conventional picking.

I made my own electric pick some time ago, and found that it took a while to get the picks movement adjusted correctly, do you think that could be the case with your problem?

Mate i had the same problem as you,i got a snap gun and i couldnt for the life of me use the bloody thing so i put it in my box and thought what was i think buying that bloody thing,,But i wouldnt let this thing beat me so i got it out and practiced till i could use it..

Now i couldnt live without it,its a must have...

So dont give up on it...they come in VERY handy...

I cant always do Yale X5 by hand and i find them hard they take some time...But with my Snap gun they are not a problem at all...
So practice practice practice practice practice...

when using you snap gun make sure you have it so it hits all the pins at the same time. some times went I use my gun I notice that I might be at a 3% angle ether up or down and it will not work, it must hit all pins at the same time.

Vary the tension as you snap repeatedly.

I would check to see if the needle's edges are a little sharp. With a snap gun especially, a sharp edge will sap most of the energy from the needle as it touches the sides of the plug. Smooth it out w/ emery paper or a sharpenign stone if so. Other than that, as I'm sure you know, you have to try to only contact the pins. And I'm sure that the tension has to be a little light before the snap and a little tighter afterwards. But I'm not sure. I've only watched a couple videos.
