jammed lock

Postby devnill » 14 Jan 2006 19:04

last month, i came home for winter break, and left the key to my yale padlock in my dorm. over the whole break, i was not able to pick the lock, and i noted having trouble feelingthe second pin . Today when i got back, i tried the key, and it didnt even fit. i am positive it is the correct key because i only have one yale lock, and it worked before i left. looking in the keyway reveals no obstructions, and i am really confused what is keeping the key from fitting.

my only guess is that something got in the lock and jammed it up. i tried some silicone, but the problem still persists. any ideas?

Well if the shape of the key matches the warding of the lock then it's likely something wrong with your lock.

Perhaps a spring has seized up some how, and because of this it won't let the key enter... try pressing all the pins down with a pick and make sure it's not a stiff pin. Failing this check the key and see if it has been deformed somehow.

that's all I can think of to be honest

after about 30 minutes of prodding and jiggeling the pins, i finally got the key to go in. i think the second pin is a spool, and was bent so it got stuck. no idea how that happened though :?: :?: :?:

I prefer KY to silicone, it prevents you from bending your spool pin.
