Tension wrench help?

Postby kracka117 » 6 Feb 2006 13:46

I was wondering is there a real difference in using the convention tension wrenches or does SPRING LOADED CIRCULAR TENSION TOOL work better and what are the pros and cons of both. also what is the difference between this plug spinner http://www.lockpickshop.com/p-A5-PGS.html or this one http://www.lockpickshop.com/p-Plug-Spinner-SOP1.html which one works better? thanks.

With spring loaded tension tools, you lose that (for some essential) feel that you have on the pins.
I do lockpicking on touch and sound and imagination, and i don't think i'd want it anyway else.

Also, i'd like to point out that using these plug spinners that you've shown on the links is only possible after picking (as the description says).

I believe Southord has something you're looking for, but still, i recommend normal feeling for picking the lock, and whatever spinner you want for after that.

my two cents.

yours,

You can make a spring loaded tension wrench for yourself easily
Take a winshield wiper insert, Bend it into an "L" shape, and make a few pretty loops between the tip and the handle... More loops = Easier control over the tension but less feedback

Sorry for multi-post. But I forgot to say:

The loops should be in the vertical direction. You should twist the wiper insert between the loop and the tip to achieve this.

Krack, are you talking about the sort of doughnut-shaped tensiouners which fit around the keyway and grab at both the top and bottom?
(I've never used one but I'd like to try one. Rigid wrenches give you a much better idea of what going on in the lock though.)

ya those are the wrenches im talking about they look real high tech with dials and such but that doesnt allways mean that it beats the simple wrenches so i was just wondering if they were worth the money

Dial wrenches

Postby Covlocks » 8 Feb 2006 5:37

Advantage of these is that if you are a beginner it gives you constant controllable torque - it can be very difficult to get the torque right on "feather" wrenches or fixed wrenches.

I have a selection of different weighted tension tools that when put into the keyway I dont touch. The weight of the tool does it all, the tension stays constant and I can see it move and feel the pins so I dont need any feedback "feel" from the tension tool.
Thats Just My View Folks...........
