Which Core to Buy?

Postby TheMikeMan » 26 Feb 2006 17:59

What's a good core to buy that is easily re-pinnable? (and don't say pretty much any deadbolt. I mean specifically) I have been reading DB's Re-Pinning tutorial thing, and I'm interested in getting something that holds around 7 pins. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks :)

The only brand I can think of that has 7 pins is a Best or other IC core.

But best is not easily repinned.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

A good 6 pin corbin will give you a fair bit of a workout as well. Not 7 pin, but still a very well made cylinder.

To make the coin, just switch to Natty Ice for a few weeks.

Certain Yale cylinders (the older commercial ones that I've seen) have 7 pins.

Also, the Best-type SFIC cores are extremely easy to repin (easier than many normal locks), provided you have the right tools. They aren't cheap, though:

LOL eric, I could probably make a ghetto version of one of those with a few blocks of plexiglass, a vise, and a drill. That might actually work! Now i have to find someone who could sell me one with all the necissary keys at a cheap price. (HINT) :P
