Yale cash box lock

Postby MK » 14 Jan 2006 19:52

I have two UK Government surplus cash boxes, nothing really heavy duty, they would have just held an office petty cash float, although they are better quality than what you would normally buy. One I have a key for, but I've lost the key for the other one and it's locked :( The lock is a small snap type 5 lever lock made by Yale (On the back of the one I have key for it's stamped "YKB xxxx" with xxxx being the key number. The key is completely flat about 1mm think so quite simple to make. Anyone know of an NDE technique for this lock? Once it's open I can make a new key for it. Looking at the box that I have a key for I've figured out two minimal damage ways of opening it by either drilling a small hole to insert a wire to push the latch back, or drill the four spot welds holding the lock in place, I could then repair the damage but I'd like to try an NDE method first.

Martin.

Have you tried a piece of mica ? Cut a slot out of it so you can pull it towards you and retract the latch.

If it's a slam shut lock then obviously the latch will retract independantly of the levers so stick a wire in the keyway and pull it back.

Ifs its what i am thinking its similar to the brinks lock boxes and all that hold that box closed is a wafer... and if you cant open that give up lock picking just take a rake and just go in and out and pop it should open in seconds...thats if its a wafer lock.... but like stated above a good picture of the key way and key and both boxes would be much more helpful. If you dont post a picture i doubt you will get any accurate info and will seem suspisous..not saying your a thief friend i am just stating that a pictures would help, i mean no offence. Well hope this helped a little buddy

What you just suggested means jack-all... I mean he ACTUALY SAID that it is a lever lock, and you're running away with the thought that it is a wafer lock.

For what it's worth would some hacksaw blade cut to size work? - providing thw arding was not nasty you could perhaps impression using it?

Or perhaps not....
